Our family has created a charitable fund to honor Zalman who was 16 when he died in 2008, and our daughter Ariel, who died in 1990 at the age of 7. Ariel and Zalman had the same heart condition, and the same huge heartfelt capacity to care about other people. Both Zalman and Ariel had a love of music, a love of dance and performance, and a deep connection to their community. With this in mind we have dedicated our fund to the needs of the children and teenagers in Zalman’s community of Taft High School and Ariel’s community of Topanga.
In the two years since the Fund began we have made a series of donations to the Taft High School marching band for the purchase of new equipment, funded a teen-designed and organized art and music festival that is held within the larger Topanga Days Fair, and donated money to fund a permanent lighting system for the Theater Arts program at Topanga Elementary School. We also have a side project that buys and donates defibrillators to local schools.
We are always looking for projects that support the lives, imaginations, and awareness of children and teenagers. We would be happy to hear your ideas.
